Traditional Yoga

How Yoga can enrich your life

We also work gently with conditions affecting the muscles and joints, including Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis. Although movement can sometimes feel uncomfortable with these conditions, appropriate exercise is widely recognised as an important part of maintaining mobility, reducing stiffness, and supporting overall joint health.

As we age, the joints naturally become less flexible. Lubricating fluid within the joints decreases, cartilage can thin over time, and ligaments may shorten and lose elasticity, often leading to stiffness and reduced movement. Many of these changes can be intensified by inactivity, as joints such as the hips and knees rely on regular movement to receive nourishment and support healthy function.

Yoga offers a gentle and effective way to keep the body moving, helping to improve strength, flexibility, circulation, balance, and posture. Research also continues to show the wider benefits of regular movement and exercise for healthy ageing, including supporting cognitive wellbeing and quality of life as we grow older.

Beyond the physical benefits, yoga also offers an opportunity for relaxation, self-awareness, and deeper connection — supporting wellbeing in body, mind, and spirit throughout the ageing process.

As we move through life, feelings of depression, anxiety, loss, loneliness, and emotional stress can sometimes become deeply held within both the mind and body. Yoga offers a gentle space in which to reconnect, restore balance, and cultivate a greater sense of calm, awareness, and inner resilience.

Beyond supporting physical health, regular yoga practice can encourage emotional wellbeing, helping to create a brighter outlook, a quieter mind, and a deeper connection to ourselves and others. Through movement, breath, relaxation, and meditation, yoga can help us develop greater clarity, presence, and the ability to respond to life with more awareness and ease.

Research continues to show that regular movement and mindful practices may support many aspects of health and wellbeing, including helping to ease arthritic pain, tension, back pain, headaches, high blood pressure, stress-related symptoms, and the effects of long-held physical and emotional strain within the body.

Laura’s teaching is informed by many years of experience in yoga, meditation, and natural approaches to wellbeing. Her classes offer a compassionate and supportive environment where students are encouraged to move at their own pace while developing strength, confidence, balance, and a deeper sense of inner wellbeing.

Laura has worked with Hatha yoga for over 50’s since 2004

Laura’s many years of experience have given her a deep understanding of the importance of breath and its effect on both the body and mind. Modern life often leads us into shallow or unbalanced breathing patterns, which can contribute to stress, anxiety, tension, and feelings of overwhelm. Through yoga and breath awareness, students begin to experience how profoundly the breath can influence emotional wellbeing, mental clarity, and overall health.

As we become more aware of the breath, we start to recognise how closely the mind, body, and emotions are connected. In moments of stress or frustration, simply observing the breath can help create a greater sense of calm, balance, and awareness.

One of the most beautiful aspects of yoga is that it can be adapted for everyone. Laura offers practices tailored to individual needs and physical abilities, creating a welcoming and supportive environment where everybody can feel comfortable, regardless of age, experience, or flexibility.
